y dos estados: corre esta cordillera más de trece o catorce leguas,
y toda va abierta; en los llanos hizo aberturas
muy grandes, y de tanto hondor, que no se veía el suelo.
Andaba la tierra de tal manera a una parte y a otra,
que no podían tenerse en pie los indios; cayeron muchas
casas en este pueblo y, con la caída, tomaban debajo y
mataron mucha gente: murieron muchas mujeres.
Sucedió, de este temblor, que el río [que] pasa por este dicho pueblo
se secó, con ser de gran golpe de agua, por más de veinte
días; al cabo de los cuales, vino a reventar con
grandísima furia, y el agua que de él salió era muy colorada,
con muy mal olor de piedra azufre: y no bebieron de él
en más de tres meses, hasta que volvió a su ser y color.
Fue cosa de tanto espanto la fuerza del temblor, que se
entendió que el mundo se acababa. Y esto se responde
a este capítulo.
22. A los veintidós capítulos, se responde que, en la comarca
y serranías de este dicho pueblo, hay muchos árboles de
roble, encina, tepehuajes [y] mezquites: esta madera es muy
recia, para ingenios de agua y para ingenios de
