is hurrying up the marriage of his oldest son before he dies.
I will try for one month eating, and sleeping in the Legation building, as an experiment. My work offices are on the 2nd floor ( [they are above the ground floor). On the next floor above, are four rooms. My own bed room, -- Mr Riddles, and the front rooms that Aliamba has for parlors.
My reception room is in my office. My work office, and I have squeezed the contingent fund until it is quite a neat room -- fit to receive any one. The story above my tea room, Aliamba occupies with his wife -- child, cook, and Ahmed. Demetrios has his bed room on the ground floor.
Behind a screen in Aliamby's work room ^(below me), I have a little round table, where I eat. My table ware cost me $30.00. It is not extensive, but neat, + I can take it home. My towels, sheets, and napkins and table cloths, are fine enough to take home, + selected with that end. No one will ever eat with me here (except Riddle) on invitation. When I entertain at dinner, it will be at the Bristol. The Londres swindled me last dinner, by giving an inferior one.
Now, if this arrangement does not work out in economy I will quit it at end of a month.

But I feel sure that I can live with more satisfaction than at a taverno, and save nearly one hundred dollars a month. Aliamba's position is a sort of steward. My eating, washing, attention to my room and all is not to cost me over $100.00 a month. I give him from time to time, money for the marketing + he keeps and reports every cent expended. He understands that he gets his house rent free, and I pay the market bill; in consideration, everything is to be kept nice, clean, and in order, and his services are due in the general economy just(?) as a hired man. I cant tell, but will report in a few weeks how it works.
If you knew how/ how little I feel inclined to dine people, you would not fear my extravagances. I will do only what must be done while I maintain my present position, and just as little as I can. I am going down to the Troad (old Troy) if I can get away, this week. They have laid bare a great part of the ancient walls, and made lately some very interesting discoveries in excavating.
I feel grateful to you for saving Rioter(?). Is he

really so fine an animal? and if so why dont you get a photograph of him and send me? If you will just send me photos (good ones) of him and Molly's two year old I will brag over the Sultans with them, and let him know that when I finally go home I will want to take home an Arab husband for that filly ^and I will send you a number more of photos. He is all at sea because I have no fondness for his presents. He wanted to give me his fine 4 year old dappled grey Arab stud, who he showed, the night he had the circus for me at the palace. {small doodle} Hobar Pasha who Radolin had dismissed has been reposted promoted to a Brigadier General by the German Army Emperor in the regular German Army + stationed at Posen. He only fell to rise higher ^Radolin must be furious. The weather here is now like our May. Most of diplomats still on Bosphorus, awaiting repairs of their palaces made necessary by the earthquake. I will try + get some little scrivener to Lena before her marriage. Tell Lena I will write to her this week.
I think you ought to be extremely prudent in your financial matters. Look out for yourself. I have the same necessities to aid others, that press on you -- except that those who look to me are more helpless. We must think some of the winter of age that approaches fast, + provide for ourselves. I love you Minerva always and think of you daily. May God in his mercy shield and preserve you.
Affectionately A. W. Terrell
