Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge
You Excellency's favor of the 16th
informing me that the Imperial
Ottoman Government will take
measures for the protection of Missionaries
residing in the interior of the country, and
adding that under these circumstances
the Ottoman Government "hopes that
the American Missionaries will abstain
on their part from every act that might
favor the subversive tendencies of the agitators."
