Toxement for waterproofing concrete, cement mortar, etc., operates in a different way from other powder and paste compounds offered for this purpose. Toxement lubricates the mass by acting upon the cement and causes the aggregate to run together into perfect density, and this is accomplished with 25 per cent less water than when no Toxe- ment is used. No foreign material is relied upon to fill the voids, the aim being to make dense concrete, because dense concrete is waterproof and the results obtained will be permanent. W. L. Macatee & Sons of Houston have made a specialty of waterproof engineering for a number of years and will be only too glad to serve to the fullest extent at any time. The largest room in many a house is the room for improvement. Cornell-Wood-Board, the logical wall and ceiling material, manufactured from log to finished board under one roof and one management, is made from pure, selected woods. Each individual fibre is thoroughly soaked in a moisture proofing compound; and the finished product is then surface sized— both back and front—to make the board practically immune to atmospheric conditions. Cornell-Wood-Board, for walls, ceilings and partitions, is used with equal satisfaction for repair work and new construction. It is installed in homes, theatres, stores, office build- ings, garages, farm houses, etc., and is even serving its purposes in barracks, etc., the U. S. Government having speci- fied and applied millions of square feet of CORNELL-WOOD-BOARD in canton- ments. “Architectural Terra Cotta” The extent of the application of Architectural Terra Cotta in Modern Architecture has been wonderfully illustrated on most of the important work issued from our leading Texas architects’ offices dur- ing the current year. Architectural Terra Cotta is now made in all colors and special surfaces and it is possible for the manufacturers to match approxi- mately nearly all the various kinds of stone used in building. Among the buildings in Texas on which have recently been suc- cessfully treated with the products of the Atlantic and Atlantic Terra Cotta Companies are: American Exchange Bank, Dallas, Texas; Lang & Witchell, Architects, Temple, Texas; Emanu-El, Dallas, Texas; Hub- bell & Greene, Architects; Masonic Temple and Kemp Library, Wichita Falls, Texas; Madorie & Field, Architects; Science Hall, Sam Hous- ton Normal, Huntsville, Texas, Endress & Watkins, Architects; Her- man Building, Houston, Texas, F. S. Glover & Son, Architects. Arthur P. Clark, Dallas, representative of Atlanta and Atlantic Terra Cotta Companies. Some of our members remember the “Dark Til Daylight Club” and recollect that Ed Goodwin had something to do with its popu- larity. Ed is now with James B. Clow and Sons and is located at St. Louis. He will be down in this territory occasionally to renew old acquaintances, however. 14 |
